Your opportunity


The Manager, Media and Communications leads the development and implementation of the organisation's communication and engagement strategy and plans. The team leads the development of high quality collateral and supports the presentation of that material through a variety of media channels to secure buy-in and support for eHealth's goals and objectives.


This role will implement mechanisms to monitor, review and improve the effectiveness of communication strategies and activities and develop plans to increase the level of support for eHealth from key stakeholders. The Media and Communications team is also responsible for event management, media strategy, web publishing.


Key responsibilities



    • Develop and implement a communications and engagement strategy, with supporting plans, to improve communications practice, optimise existing channels, showcase innovation and better engage internal and external stakeholders.

    • Craft manage and maintain internal messaging at a fast pace, across extensive online and offline channels to ensure communications are high quality, consistent, accurate, timely and fit for purpose.

    • Develop and implement communications plans and collateral to support change programs and key organisation-wide projects and assist management as required to carry out these plans. Provide a full communications service to the organisation and each branch through a business partner model.

    • Provide high quality communications advice to the Chief Executive and senior leaders as required.

    • Drive and support business transformation through internal and external channels such as intranet, SharePoint, website, social media, business bulletins, videos and other online and offline media.

    • Ensure message integration and leveraging across external and internal communications, working with industry, the media and government relations teams as required.

    • Ensure the provision of high quality media and communications collateral including: press releases, features ministerial briefings and other related documents.

    • Manage a mix of internal and external communications with key channels including the website, e-newsletters, Intranet updates, mail outs and marketing material.

    • Ensure excellent internal and external relationships to capitalise on communications opportunities.

    • Develop inform/educate/positioning campaigns to establish understanding of and buy-in to the organisation's vision and objectives.

    • Assist the Chief Executive in providing considered, professional and timely advice to the Director-General, Minister and senior management on managing major issues and crisis management and building brand reputation through proactive content creation and responding to issues of public interest.

    • Deliver major high profile events, managing significant sponsorship and contract negotiations.

    • Act as a role model and advocate for the organisation both internally and externally, taking every opportunity to reinforce positive cultural messages.

    • Develop a strong team culture that supports the success of the team and empowers the individuals within it to perform to their full potential.

    • Build a competent team with the required capability, implement a framework for continuous development that will enable improved performance.

    • Encourage and recognise the performance of staff, ensuring that performance appraisal and training and development plans are in place.

    • Promote and foster professional development through coaching, mentoring and providing opportunities to advance leadership and management skills, technical expertise and interpersonal skills, leading by example in the pursuit of continuous learning and quality improvements.

    • Develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships across government and the ICT industry to foster a culture of innovation advocacy and change readiness.

    • Lead and manage complex stakeholder negotiation across the department, whole of government and industry to ensure alignment with wider communications initiatives and priorities.

    • Participate in high level forums and committees as required to support the implementation of department's agendas and priorities.

    • A proven track record and a strongly held conviction and energy for making significant and positive contributions to organisational change and transformation, including having executive thinking ability, and capacity to deal with abstract and complex organisational issues.

    • Knowledge of good business management practices and public sector structures, processes and policies.
