Position Summary

The role of the Assistant Account Manager is primarily to work closely with and support the Account Manager to oversee, maintain and liaise with all business accounts pre and post validation. This will include stakeholder engagement, expectation management, and undertaking validation activities to assess business seeking to join the Programme. This role may require conducting basic research, preparing reports and minutes, responding to queries; and assisting with the delivery of the programmes benefits.

Analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills must be of high standard, as well as initiative and flexibility.

Specific Duties / Responsibilities

Assistant Account Managers responsibilities include:

  • Providing support to the account manager and industry participants;
  • Assist in the assessment of potential applicants against program qualification criteria and accreditation requirements, liaison with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Undertaking validation activities on applicants including taking effective, observant and accurate notes.
  • Acquiring work knowledge and understanding of policy, procedures and guidelines; and applying that knowledge effectively to the accreditation and validation process
  • Preparing assessment documentation for submission to the Delegate under AM guidance
  • Creating accurate and complete records in accordance with recordkeeping practice statements and systems;
  • Undertake administration and other ad hoc tasks as directed to support the Operations team
  • Professionally represent operations and the wider Dept in the course of all duties; and
  • Model APS values, integrity and professional standards, including fair and equitable behaviour, and apply the principles and procedures of work health and safety.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Strong written communication and verbal skills including the ability to present information in a concise manner understood by a variety of audiences ;
  • Demonstrated high-level skills in use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and TRIM; experience in or the ability to gain skills in Client Relationship Management systems is highly desirable;
  • An ability to understand legal information, understand policy and apply to standard situations;
  • Stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to maintain and build new relationships
  • A high standard of client service skills;
  • Support Senior staff as required;
  • Have and/or meet a Current Baseline security clearance; and Employment Suitability
  • The ability to be flexible, deadline focused, and pro-active within a dynamic and challenging environment;
  • Australian Citizenship
  • A current NSW Drivers Licence and is willing and able to drive to meetings and validations as required


  • Relevant tertiary qualifications are desirable, which may include (but would not be limited to) the following fields: management, business, security management, quality assurance, accounting, public policy, customs and international trade, legal practice.
  • Previous Public Sector experience
