Report to a Highly Experienced Project Director

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Development Manager to join their Canberra team, working on the Googong project - a joint venture with Mirvac. Googong is a self contained new town in NSW, 16km from Canberra's Parliament House, with an ultimate estimated population of 18,000 people.

Reporting to the Senior Project Director, this role will manage a team of development professionals to deliver various stages and town centre of a master planned community, will be accountable for project feasibilities including time, cost and profitability of the project, ensuring maximisation of returns to investors. As an experienced Development Manager, you will be able to demonstrate sound commercial acumen and leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholders.

The critical responsibilities will include:-

  • To manage the effective and timely delivery of a master planned community. The person is accountable for the project feasibilities including time, cost and profitability of all allocated projects, ensuring maximisation of returns to shareholders within an appropriate risk horizon
  • Ensure assets are leveraged to achieve best of use outcomes
  • Obtain necessary approvals and clearance of conditions; this will involve engagement with State and Local Government Agencies and statutory bodies.
  • Accountability for all project feasibilities and financial outcomes for the project
  • Prepare annual business plans including project scope, budget and overall development strategy

Skills and attributes to be successful in this role will include:-

  • Proven experience managing complex projects
  • High level financial analysis and budgeting skills
  • Strong people leadership/management experience of diverse multilayered teams - both internally and externally
  • A sound track record delivering projects to agreed timelines and budgets
  • Experience dealing with major planning, environmental and rezoning issues
  • Willingness to accept authority for decision making
  • A proven ability to manage project and financial risk
  • Established networks and experience liaising with the relevant local and state government entities
  • Degree in Property, Commerce, Construction Engineering, Project Management or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • A proven ability to embrace new initiatives and demonstrate a positive attitude and resilience when change is Implemented
