Finance Manager -2IC to the Financial Controller

The Role;

We have been exclusively engaged by one of Sydney's leading utilities/ infrastructure organisations to recruit an exciting newly created role in their dynamic finance team. Working closely with the Financial Controller and the CFO this role will act as the 2IC to the Financial Controller and will take ownership of all financial & management reporting, strategic risk management & compliance, high level Tax accounting and financial modelling and analysis. This is a very broad role that will also offer exposure to a variety of stakeholders across the business including the management team, board of directors, financial, tax & legal advisors and the regulatory board. The company are looking for hands on individual who will make the Finance Manager role their own, learn the business from the ground up, shadow the current Financial Controller, take ownership of key deliverables and then have the ambition / ability to progress to the Financial Controller position within 18-24 months.

Key duties will include but not be limited to the following;

  • Maintenance of the financial and operational model which includes developing the model as a key forecasting tool. Managing future cash needs and resources to maximise the returns to the shareholders
  • Preparation/ analysis of the annual budget & Forecasts
  • Managing and optimising the Company's cash balances
  • Lead month-end close process, including preparation and review of management reports
  • Cash flow reporting and preparation of bank reconciliations, Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
  • Preparation of fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
  • Prepare statutory reports for multiple Entities & FBT calculation annually
  • Liaise with the external auditors, overseeing the year-end financial statement audit
  • Preparing semi-annually the valuation of the equity investment & producing Board Reports to set out key findings and changes
  • Assist in managing the risk profile of the company via strategic input in to the Company's Risk register and strategic risk discussions
  • Preparation of Board and Audit, Risk and Compliance committee papers
  • Treasury management and involvement in debt management
  • Managing regulatory financial requirements
  • Analyse KPI reporting and prepare business cases when necessary
  • Assist in the coordination of Board meetings
  • Developing & maintaining company Policy compliance, Tax risk management and tax compliance
  • Providing ad hoc support to management when required
  • Assisting with Company Secretarial duties

The Candidate;

  • CA, CPA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA Qualified or equivalent.
  • 3-5 year's experience within a Big4 / large Mid-Tier firm and looking to make your first move into commerce (Must be at Assistant Manager / Manager level)
  • OR 3-5 year's broad accounting experience within a commercial environment
  • Previous experience within a Utilities/ Infrastructure business highly desired or an Investment Bank
  • Must have an excellent understanding/ working experience of Accounting principles and strong Tax knowledge
  • Must have an excellent Modelling experience (including Financial, Scenario, Impact, NVP, Income Statement & Cash Flow)
  • Excellent communication skills and strong stakeholder management skills are essential
  • A Team player that likes to collaborate with fellow team members
  • Well organised, well planned and very good prioritisation skills
  • Strong work ethic and passionate in regards to delivering to the best of your ability
  • A curious mind, the ability to think outside the box and challenge the status quo
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • A genuine interest in the Utilities / Infrastructure industry
