The Company:

The Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board (MFB) responds to approximately 36,600 calls per year from Melbourne's four million residents and employs 1800 fire fighters and 340
corporate staff. Its specialist services include urban search and rescue, response to fires and hazardous incidents, road accident rescue, emergency medical response and marine response. The Job:

The MFB are looking for a Fire Safety Engineer to work across a busy team of 7 other specialists and manage multiple stakeholders in a autonomous role with excellent work-life balance.

This is a contracting position to last approximately until April 2018, with a strong possibility of extension. We will require an experienced Fire Safety Engineer to work independently on projects from concept to completion and liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders throughout a project's lifecycle.

A Fire Safety Engineer at the MFB would be required to;

  • Assessment and evaluation of CAD drawings and input across design proposals
  • Managing projects independently from specification, to design and modelling and final delivery
  • Strict compliance to various public infrastructure and civil structure regulations
  • Regular involvement and consulting across fire safety projects using knowledge of Australian Buildings Codes and technical input of fire analysis
  • Working across a team of 7 specialists to deliver input and manage design meetings
  • Representation of the MFB at various internal/external stakeholder meetings
  • Conducting safety and site inspections across multiple diverse environments and providing consultation locations throughout Victoria
  • Involvement of projects from concept to completion across multi-disciplined professionals
  • Communicating throughout various departments and providing technical advice to end-users
  • Input and analysis of plans and specifications in an engineering capacity
  • Working to strict quality and compliance procedures such as BCA standards
  • Providing all-round advice and support to a specialist group of building surveyors, fire service engineers and fire fighters
  • Report writing and documentation throughout all project phases
  • Working with mathematical equations, formulas and calculations within a project focus
  • Mentoring juniors and providing advice to colleagues within the MFB

Candidates who can provide evidence of the following will be strongly considered:

  • Relevant Bachelor degree (Architectural, Building Services, Engineering or similar)
  • Minimum 5 years experinece and knowledge across buildings regulation compliance working to BCA standards in Victorian or interstate projects
  • Evidence of working within a Fire Safety Engineering role and Fire Safety Project Management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to cooperate in tight-knit teams and follow up documentation from site inspections
  • Technical aptitude and confidence in design and modelling software
  • Independent work-alone initiative (ability to work project concept to completion)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage schedules with multiple projects and workloads
  • Outgoing personality with ability to earn trust, respect and confidence from team members
  • Expert knowledge across buildings regulation compliance working to BCA standards
  • Proven history in Project Management within a technical engineering environment
  • Ability and motivation to partner with colleagues and use team work to complete tasks where necessary
