The Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board (MFB) is a world class emergency service employing over 2,300 people and responding to 36,000 calls per year from Melbourne's four million residents and visitors. Its services include urban search and rescue, response to fires and hazardous incidents, road accident rescue, emergency medical response and marine response. The role



The MFB is currently seeking an experienced Media and Communications Advisor to join its Media and Communications team.



The Media and Communications Advisor will report to the External Communications Manager and will be responsible for engaging in proactive and reactive media on all MFB matters, managing media at relevant operational incidents and to support the overall communications strategy.




Responsibilities:



You will be responsible for:




    • Managing incident media management on a shared rotating basis including press release, attending incidents, briefing relevant spokespersons

    • Supporting the External Communications Manager in the delivery of the Communications strategy

    • Preparing press release, publicity packages to support branded events, partnerships and sponsorships

    • Assisting the Director and External Communications Manager with issues and crisis management

    • Assisting the Online and Channels Coordinator in monitoring, moderating and developing content for online responses on social media as requested and establishing a proactive MFB media online presence




    Experience and skills:



    In order to be considered for this role, the Media and Communications Advisor will have the following:




    • 3-5+ years experience in media relations role

    • Proven relationships with key media, and knowledge of media and social media processes and procedures

    • Exceptional communication skills
    • (verbal and written)
    • Demonstrated experience in working in a high pressure Media environment

    • Strong Media and political nous and what is taking place in the media space regarding MFB

    • Impeccable attention to detail

    • Prior Emergency Services experience desirable but not essential

    • Qualifications in journalism, communications or related field desirable

    • Must be available to work a rotating on-call media schedule (allowance provided)



In addition to experience in the above listed, you will be proactive, self-initiating, resilient and accountable and possess a high level of integrity and confidentiality.
