Principal Petroleum Engineer -Gas Storage Project - State Government

  • Client site environment based in CBD Melbourne
  • Excellent remuneration package on a 12 month fixed term contract (potential to be extended)

Our client is a leading state government agency, currently they have an amazing opportunity for a principal level petroleum engineer or scientist to work on major oil & gas project, which is jointly funded by both state and commonwealth government.

This is the principal level role on a 12 months fixed term contract with potential for extension and also offer very good remuneration package and work-life-balance while working on a client site.

Responsibilities and duties:

Reporting to Project Director, the principal petroleum engineer will involve in the delivery of an offshore Geological Appraisal (OAA) program at the project site:

  • Provide technical expertise and advice for the execution of the appraisal activities with a strong focus on safety, minimizing environmental and stakeholder impact, within budget and time
  • Ensure the project is delivered following strictly on industry, regulatory and departmental health safety and environment (HSE) policies and relevant safety requirement
  • Oversee the delivery of Marine Seismic Survey (MSS) and the Pelican Offshore Appraisal Well (OAW) by contractor and service provider management
  • Manage the project resources, plan the project schedule/milestones and track the cost
  • liaising with different internal and external stakeholders including project sponsors and various committees

Selection Criteria:

To be considered, candidates need to have the following attributes:

  • Tertiary qualification in earth sciences, petroleum engineering or equivalent (Post-graduate qualification is preferable)
  • Minimum 10 years' experience working as a petroleum project manager or development geologist
  • Proven experience in leading and managing operational geological data gathering via offshore appraisal wells with experience or knowledge in marine seismic surveys
  • Demonstrated understanding of the geology of the Gippsland Basin and CO2 behavior in oil field operations and carbon capture and storage (CCS)
  • Excellent communication skill and ability to build strong rapport with different stakeholders
