Senior Advocacy, Media Communications & Engagement Adviser



Build the capacity of the Public Affairs Branch to engage productively with the Department's highest influence stakeholders. A true advocacy role.



Role purpose:



In this newly created position, you will build the capacity of the Public Affairs Branch to engage productively with the Department's high influence stakeholders. The Media unit is responsible for advising Ministers and Departmental executives on media and public affairs issues and preparing approved responses for them and to the media.



Responsibilities:



This position, working within the media unit and directly managing one stakeholder adviser, is focused on engaging with the Department's high influence stakeholders, opening up a dialogue with them on communications and media issues and ensuring they are aware of State Government's key initiatives, new policies and programs. Achieving the Government's agenda targets requires a collaborative effort among all partners in the system. Ensuring high influence stakeholders are engaged in a timely manner helps ensure that the communities of professionals they work with and support are briefed and able to act in real time on initiatives.



Communities of professionals may include in particular principals, teachers, parents and students. The role also supports the work of the Public Affairs branch more broadly including assisting the branch deliver a pro-active news agenda while supporting the Department and Ministers response to reactive requests.




About you:



You have worked in a similar role in an organisation that has faced difficulties. You are a true advocate, and not afraid to defend a certain position or policy when needed. You will have extensive experience responding in a variety of written formats for either Government, Not for Profit, or an extremely issues rich organisational environment. You will showcase exceptional stakeholder engagement skills. Qualifications in either Media, Communications or similar preferred.




Other requirements:



Some out of hours work, including being available on call at times, is required. This is a VPS5 level role, starting at $58.16 per hour + Super, negotiable for the right candidate.
