Permanent Role | Immediate Start

This role is not for the faint of heart. It will be busy. It will see you utilise your entire communications skillset. It will be challenging. It will be rewarding.

Reporting directly to the Manager of Communications, the incumbent will develop the authorities' ongoing media relations strategy, and be a key influencer in the organisation's overall external and internal communication and engagement approach.

This is permanent position with an immediate start. VPS5.2 equivalent starting from $103,721 p/a + super. Rate negotiable for the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including the media, to effectively communicate information regarding the authority
  • Develop change management, communication and engagement plans
  • Identify positive media opportunities and respond to enquiries, issues and complaints
  • Act as a media spokesperson, providing expert media relations advice, managing media relationships and the authorities' social media presence
  • Actively develop public relations opportunities
  • Design, implement and evaluate strategic media relations programs
  • Provide high level, accurate and timely strategic media relations advice
  • Design, implement and evaluate the functions internal communication protocols and be the custodian for the functions internal communication framework
  • Develop and execute an internal communication strategy aligned to the authorities' priorities that increases employee confidence and engagement
  • Monitor and manage relevant commentary on social and online platforms
  • Develop a social media strategy and schedule for identified events
  • Create and implement communications campaigns for incidental events, including dispatch of advertising, media products and web change plans as required

About you:

  • You have a strong media and strategic communications background
  • You have previously worked within the Public Sector
  • You enjoy working autonomously and have a strong work ethic
  • You know when to delegate, but you won't hesitate in rolling up your sleeves to get things done
  • You have highly developed project management skills
  • You have very strong attention to detail
  • You are proactive and take initiative
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills
